no

... although I recall an incident many years ago where a driver, having been stopped by a random police check, was found to be driving barefoot and warned by a PC that technically he could be charged with not being "in complete control of the vehicle" because you dont have the same braking force with bare feet as you do wearing shoes. Likewise any inappropriate footwear could be deemed detrimental to the control of a vehicle.
I believe it is - or at least that's what my parents always told me when I borrowed their car!

definately NOT illegal but i would advise for safety reasons you wear shoes. When any crash occurs i cam assure you you feet will take some force. In a bad smash the steering pillion can easily collapse and bahg your feet. Further what if you have to get out unexpectedly???

Just wear shoes. Flat soled ones are best according to Advanced motorist orgs

I had a crash baare foot, whether legal or not I don't recommend it!

why would u want to

It's bloody difficult with socks on, so I wouldn't recommend bare feet.

Thanks to everyone who replied. Just for the record I have no intention of driving in bare feet it was just one of those silly conversations I was having with a mate the other day and neither of us knew if it was illegal.
