Discussing it on ITV's This Morning at the mo.

Are we feeling exercised about this?

Or is it the latest political hobby horse?

Flippies would surely just be two lefts? And floppies two rights?

Flippies are flip-flops ?

I suspect that is dangerous as they could slip, perhaps end up under thepedal or soemthing, and you lose control.

Would have thought bare feet would have good grip though.
My TV signal is a full three minutes behind yours. I changed channels and they were still discussing the Diana story.
Haven't seen the prog - but were talking about it last week. I think driving in loose fitting footwear is dangerous and have never done it.

I'd have thought bare feet were better than hard soled shoes, because you get a good feel of the pedals.

That's why Formula1 drivers wear those really soft shoes.
I've driven in bare feet with no problems provided the pedal rubbers are in good condition and you don't leave the shoes in the footwell. If I'm driving a fair distance I've got a pair of shoes with very thin soles that I use all the time.

Any footwear that only grips around the toes and has nothing around the heel is in my opinion an accident looking for somewhere to happen.
In the Balearics and I assume the rest of Spain, if you are caught driving in flip flops there is an on the spot fine of €100 (£90)
It's very dangerous. I'd drive in bare feet before I'd drive in flip flops.

I did it once and the flip flop got stuck under the accelerator when I went to brake.
I used to like driving in bare feet until a piece of gravel got between my foot and the pedal.
Flipping painful, it was
You need to be in proper control ofthe car at all times

Up to £1000 fine and 3 penalty points

This has been used for mobile phone usage and there's no reason that it couldn't be used for inappropriate footwear.

Wellington boots for example might be inappropriate in many cars

Don't need a change in the law specifically just guidance from CPS on this.

The whole population are walking around in floppies at the mo.

Actually, quite a lot of teenagers, and occasionally me, are walking around barefoot.

"flippies" ... not "floppies"

Well, having said that ...

lol
I did most of my driving in flipflops in my youth, living as I did in sunnier climes. I never found them harder to manage than shoes. It may be a matter of how used to them you are.

Bare feet is problematic because of the tendency of tiny, needle-sharp stones to jump into my car and wait under the pedals.
jj, i'd never walk the streets barefooted, stubbing out your fag would be painful, and can you imagine treading in discarded chewing gum.Yeuk.
I learned to drive in bare feet but my instructor requested I wore shoes on the day of my test as it was frowned upon. I felt more secure somehow driving in bare feet. Flipflops would scare the living daylights out of me. I trip over the damn things walking along a pavement, what chance driving ?

baza ... sometimes, it's just good to feel ... grounded? To feel the sand on the pavement, and the warmth on your feet. And you obviously wash your feet before you get in bed, lol.

The Ed may be right ^^

Someone is sure to point out that the sand around here is a fine layer of grit off the pebbles ... but the principle still applies.
jj, even at my tender age it's still "nice" to feel the grass under barefeet.
jayne, not when the warmth is freshly deposited dog poo or a partially extinguished fag end.......
