I've driven in bare feet with no problems provided the pedal rubbers are in good condition and you don't leave the shoes in the footwell. If I'm driving a fair distance I've got a pair of shoes with very thin soles that I use all the time.
Any footwear that only grips around the toes and has nothing around the heel is in my opinion an accident looking for somewhere to happen.
I did most of my driving in flipflops in my youth, living as I did in sunnier climes. I never found them harder to manage than shoes. It may be a matter of how used to them you are.
Bare feet is problematic because of the tendency of tiny, needle-sharp stones to jump into my car and wait under the pedals.
I learned to drive in bare feet but my instructor requested I wore shoes on the day of my test as it was frowned upon. I felt more secure somehow driving in bare feet. Flipflops would scare the living daylights out of me. I trip over the damn things walking along a pavement, what chance driving ?
baza ... sometimes, it's just good to feel ... grounded? To feel the sand on the pavement, and the warmth on your feet. And you obviously wash your feet before you get in bed, lol.
