Taxi drivers are reluctant to go into it yet in the same street there's an area where drivers can collect their shopping from a nearby M&S.
Is dropping, or picking up passengers, good enough reason for drivers to be in the street?

I'll take a photo next time I'm in town. Now that you mention it does seem very Irish. :-)

The sign's white with a red rim and there is image of a car and a motorbike on the central part. That is a no entry sign?
This sign usually reads 'No entry, access only' which allows drivers to deliver and others to visit said properties.
Perhaps taxi drivers are concerned that they will be spotted on ANPR and will be considered to be using the route as a rat run.
That's a 'cars and motorbikes prohibited' sign. All other vehicles can use the road.
i think it means no entry unless you live or are visiting someone on that street

not sure how that works with M&S, i assume deliveries are made somewhere
Why is it very Irish?
It's the same as the Road Closed sign we discussed a few days back "Road Closed except for Access" - i.e. "No Through Road"
'Why is it very Irish?'

...because in plain English it means 'you can't drive up this street unless you want in'.

Ummm, you could read the signs as saying: You can't come in unless you need to come in. It doesn't seem altogether logical.
And why is that Irish?
Is that a can of worms I can hear being opened?

Here are the signs. For some reason Street View have obscured the 'Except for access' one.

Or Pandora's box...

Is it the only access to M&S pick-up point?
Question Author
All right, I accept it's not particularly Irish. But both signs together seem at least incongruous.

It is, Baldric.
