My son has just been handed a £430.00 bill to replace the "glo plugs" in his Meriva. The car was with the garage for 3 days as they had to soak them to get them out????????

Does this amount sound right, please?

That is a ridiculous amount to be charged to get the plugs out (and replace them), regardless of how long it took them. Once the garage could not easily remove them – they should have advised him of the inflated costs that will be charged as a result, and ask if they should proceed.
For that money you would get at least 4 hours mechanics' time. Sounds like he’s been charged for the mechanic to hang around while the plugs soak.

He might get a reduction if he complains (or takes the matter up with local trading standards) – but don’t use the garage again, and advise others of his experience with this garage.

He was advised at the outset that it would be around £200.00. The garage in question is one of the main Vauxhall dealers.

They certainly didn't advise him of the bill being any more than £200. This was bad enough, just before Xmas but, double, he just cannot afford at this time.

Thanks, Scrivens.
Agree, argue your case and tell them you'll report them to trading standards.

Friend if mine had a problem with the engine management light on his Mazda 6, they tried to charge him £600 to locate a blocked pipe, he ended up paying £250.
Well if it's a main dealer the bill should be fully itemised, see what has been charged for what.
