VW Golf rear door won't open

Hi, the back driver's side door won't open on my Golf Match 2007 FSI 115. First thoughts were that the child lock might have been switched on by mistake, but sadly it's not that. I can't open it from the inside either. Does anyone know if this is a problem we could fix ourselves or is it a garage job? I'm hoping to avoid the latter... times are hard :-)

It might have just glued itself shut with the wet then dry weather.

Try lying on the back seat and pushing hard with socked feet while someone pulls from outside.

It sounds like the connecting rod between the door handle & the lock has dropped, you may need to remove the door card to find the source of the problem, it's not a big job to do.
