My heater seems to blow out cold air..?

i checked the water it was low, topped it up with half watering can full...but where has the water gone originally..? could i have a broken hose or something....im female i dont know about cars dont mean to sound stupid.

Could be a small leak
Half a watering can full?!!!!! You should be worrying about something more serious than cold air from your heater. Garage should do a pressurisation test on the cooling system to find where this water's going.

If your water level fell that low you may have an air lock in the heater hoses/matrix. But you still need to find where all the water went. Give us some info on make/model, we might have some more useful advice.

markrae thanks for your advice on both counts..first i am going tomorrow to solicitor, if my car will make it and 2nd i should be taking the car to garage called them today, but seems i will have to take water with me for journey to solicitors...im not having a very good week...oh the car is a mondeo liter

Charger777, Can you let us know the outcome of your car problem, when sorted/diagnosed. It all adds to the sum of our knowledge, and may help others, in the future. I don't envy you, this sounds expensive! Good luck.
Hi depending on the age / model, the mondeo did go through a stage of having failed water pumps (despite Ford completey denying this) and most of the time it was just the gasket failing. depending HOW quickly this has been picked up you might ave got away with it, Please prepare yourself for the worst though. On the up side Fords are relativly eash(ish) to fix and parts are not that bad. Please let us know the outcome. (Dont let the garge fob you off if they realise you do not know much about cars, if you dont know them or trust them. GET A SECOND OPINION)
It's an idea to pull the dipstick out and check the quality of the oil on the end... If it's black or transparent/golden colour, That's good news.
If it's a bit milky/creamy try having a look down the filler cap on the top of the engine for a second opinion (though you can't allways see right down these). Water in oil churns up once the engines been ran. If you've got that then unfortunately it could be the head gasket and you shouldn't run the engine for any length of time till you know for sure.
