going up steep hills

hi i just recently went yo scarbrough from hull in my car first time using my sat-nav it took me the way where there is lot of steep hils i've got a 1.1 engine citreon car i was trying to go up it in 3rd then 4th but it woun't i don't no if i haven't bult up anouth speed but it wouldn't go up it it's my first time doing hills.

Your engine needs more power to climb hills.......you should be in second or first gear.

gosh, don't they do hill starts in driving lessons any more?

3rd then 4th?? did you try reverse, too?
