Im no mechanic but i had a similar problem, wer my car would cut out and the wipers would come on and things like that. It turned out that the bettery was a bit loose, so i just disconnected it give it a wipe with a cloth and connected it back up again and its been running fine ever since. Might be worth a try, if it doesnt work iv not a clue. hope ya get it sorted anyway

I had similar problems, except no lights came on on the dashboard (unless I pressed the clutch, then the engine stopped and lights came on.

It needed a new coil unit.

my 95 astra did same, thing it was egr valve.

my focus c-max did and that was EGR

very dangerous if it cuts out when driving, get it to someone who can get on a diagnostics computer asap.

as some of the people above said it could be the EGR valve, but it could also be any number of things possibly the IAC valve (idle air control)but this would only be when you take your foot off the accelerator,id get it plugged into a diagnostic thing asap.
