Could be a drive belt that's snapped.
Ist check your fuses, it may be it's on a Electric Power Steering, If not, check power steering oil / belt.
Many cars now have electric power steering, so there will not be a drive belt for it; I don't know about the Vectra. Conventional power steering has a fluid reservoir; if you can find one check the fluid level. If you can't it's probably electric and may need professional diagnosis.
A takes 10 mins to check your fuses, do the checks before you get ripped off.
I think the bottom line, TWR, is that he needs to get his handbook out.
I agree, Most Vaux are on Electric Steering,I had a problem with a Zafria, Fuse had blown, 10min fix Bhj
Ignore my post. It's an electric/hydraulic system. Have you checked the fluid levels?
My power steering stopped while I was driving. Very scary. Vauxhall Astra!

Try the f9 fuse, there may be 2 fuses to check.
Although it's very heavy to steer Ummmm, the car can get you home by that time you should enter Mrs Universe.
