Of the various makes of Japanese cars - Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Datsun, etc - which are supposed to be best and worst quality? By all means, list them in order

When did Mitsubishi stop in Europe? They still seem to have a full sales and servicing network

We have just bought A Toyota Hybrid automatic, made in England It's fab! Apparently BMW use the Hybrid none

I'll start again from the beginning: we've just bought a Toyota Auris Hybrid Automatic. It's fab to drive, and I get well over 450 miles from a full tank of petrol. BMW use a Toyota Hybrid engine in their cars.
Hi there: All Japanese cars are good, but of course it depends what you gauge them against. Is there such as thing as a bad car made today, I doubt it – but then you won't have the Chinese-made ones in Europe just yet. Here in South Africa we are inundated with them, they are not good, some don't even have ABS brakes, no Eurocap test for them, methinks. Basically steer clear of them even if they are priced to sell ... You didn't mention Mazda, now they are good. Funny, but I've never met anyone here who had bought, say a Honda or Mazda and wouldn't consider purchasing another. It just doesn't happen. Personally I'm not mad about Korean cars (bought a new one about 7 years ago and it took me 10 months to get rid of it, and could only sell it back to the dealer [Hyundai] no one else would look at it). Yankee cars, German cars and French cars are good – Italian ones less so – who else is there? Stick with a Jap brand and you won't go far wrong ... hope my rambling helps to ease your mind just a little ... retired motoring scribbler.
"Nissan sell low-quality cars with a painful spares network.
Mitsubishi no longer sell cars in Europe" -what utter cobblers
methyl must have had a bad experience. In my experience Nissan are excellent quality and reliability. I'd Say Honda/Nissan/Toyota are all pretty well equivalent. Honda possibly edges it for me but I have a soft spot for Nissan. Datsun is a badge owned by Nissan. Not sure why methly thinks Mitsubishi no longer sell here: http://www.mitsubishi-cars.co.uk/dealers/
I'm not sure what the Mitsubishi dealer that I pass is selling, if not it's cars, methyl.....one of their models is the Mirage...perhaps that is what you are seeing?
I had a Nissan for years - I'd gladly have another one. Spares were no problem at that time.
Nissan are relaunching the Datsun brand in some countries.

I've owned four Nissans and never had a problem with spares.

We have a Toyota and a Nissan in our household and are happy with both, in equal measure.
Slightly off topic here but all the Japanese cars I have owned have needed servicing on-the-button or they start to run rough ! The VWs, Audis and BMWs I've owned seem to run on abuse. Maybe I'm just a mean mean car owner...
It is Daihatsu that no longer sell or plan to sell in Europe.Obviously Daihatsu sounds like Mitsubishi ...
As for running on abuse NOTHING matches any old Jap car esp before they became Europeanized
I agree ken, I had a Datsun 120Y, bullet proof reliability, I'd probably still have it if some numpty handn't written it off for me!
I've had a Daihatsu and currently have a Nissan, some 10 years old.
I'd recommend both highly, couldn't fault them.

Mazda, yep, good as ever!
