I know FAO's are frowned upon, but this has been bugging me for a couple of days and I saw Tilly was on a thread which I didn't want to side-track.

Tills, did you ever find a man/company to refurbish your late dad's lamp? x

I have found a company, Alba but have not sent it off to them yet. I have had too many other things to do since my dad died. When everything is sorted out and completed, I will get it sent to them.

Thanks for asking.
Cmon Tills, we want to know that it is lit for Christmas Eve.
It will be, Togo. I promise.
:)
So sorry Tilly. Didn't know you had lost your Dad. Please accept my sincere condolences xxx
Thank you, Mazie. That's very kind of you.

You weren't to know. I did not post a thread about it on here.
What sort of lamp is it Tilly? x
A miner's lamp. Mazie. An Eccles Type 6 lamp. I put a little tea light in it for his funeral service. It was lovely to see it glowing away on the top of his casket. It really needs refurbishing and I don't know how to do it myself,so I'm going to send it away to be done.
Awww That's lovely Tilly. Hope you get it sorted x
We live in Eccles and Mr BD's mum worked at the Protector Lamp Company for many years. We have got one that has been made into a cigarette lighter and one that has been converted to electric. We have several more just in a box in the cellar. Mr BD has spent some time taking one apart and cleaning it up and we are taking it to France as a present for our friends who live over there.
It's the Protector Lamp Company that I'm sending it to BD. It was dad's lamp when he was at work and it's very precious to me. I hope they will do a good job of bringing it back into working order. I'm sure they will. I do take it apart and clean it now and again but I don't keep it gleaming. Gleaming doesn't seem right.
Small world eh? I'm sure they will look after it and hope it does not cost you too much.
There is a standard charge and then there is a charge for any replacement bits needed. I doesn't seem too expensive. I hope your friends in France appreciate your gift to them, BD.
Have just looked on their website at the cost of a new lamp. £199. My goodness we may have a fortune in the cellar. We have got several different designs and metals.
There you go then, BD. :-) The Protector Lamp Company do buy them.

I wouldn't part with dad's though.
So sorry Tilly, I didn't know about your dad xxx
There are several companies dealing with buying and selling of lamps. Have a google and see for yourself.
Thank you, Smow. I appreciate that.
Of course you will keep your dad's lamp. That is precious to you. Mum collected these over the years. She knew the family very well and worked for them for some years and I went to school with a couple of the younger ones. Its only a 10-15 min walk from our house so might be worth a stroll down one day. Where are you situated? Is it too far for you to visit them?
It's a lovely lovely thing that you are doing xx
