Look what sprung up overnight in our town!

http://www.rossendalefreepress.co.uk/news/haslingden-community-spin-over-outdoor-11389359

It's causing an almighty kerfuffle amongst local businesses and residents, and I can see why. I pottered up to town this morning to have a gawk at it and by 'eck it's ruddy ugly!

Anyone else got one in their town?

For people to wash their dirty linen in public ?

Right pain if it rains.

Surprised if it was worth the investment in washing machines.
I've never seen one of these things. It looks as if users have to stand in the rain, getting wet, whilst their smalls get dried. Not something that I'd care to do.
could put tourists off visiting the town

absolutely... my number one reason for not visiting Haslingden (despite all I have heard about the wonderful people living there). Maybe it would be nice painted avocado colour.

I genuinely can't understand who'd use it. I mean how does it work? Do you have to loiter around for an hour or so whilst your washing's doing? Or do you go home (shopping/whatever) and pray you get back to it before it get nicked when its finished?
Looks forward of the building line to me and may therefore need planning permission.

According to the article the owner (of the shop) has stated he doesn't need it Fred. I've contacted the council and joined the over 200 other residents (so far) who've filled in a online complaint form- I strongly suspect that number will increase, people are going mental about it.
Wouldn't last long around here. One night it would be lifted and put on wheels and taken down to the local scrapyard after the cash boxes were emptied.
They can't shut Bacup Library......!!!!!
Where am I going to go and find out more about my dead relatives?

Sorry......I got distracted.......:o)

I bet not many in Haslingden knew what they were: still wash-tub, dolly and mangle territory oop thur. :oP
do you get many tourists in Haslingden?
Question Author
hell yeah bednobs, we've got Hollands Pie factory and a textile museum, and the Halo!

Errrr, perhaps not....

Hey Jack! I'm surprised Bacup still has a library to be honest, by the time its inhabitant have counted their 6 finger on each hand they're knackered, too tired to read books as well.
just look at it as a bit of modern art .

You know , Tracey emin sort of thing ?
What eyesores they are, I would definitely sign a petition if it was where I live.
How dare you everso.........
You're just jealous because you are at the wrong end of the valley!

Still, I think I'd be a little annoyed to have one of those washing-machine combos spring up where I lived even if it was provided with all the best of intentions.
Looks as if they are coming to a city near you .
They will be all the rage soon

Here is another one

Well I can see why some don't like the look of them , but if no one uses them it will be shifted - storm in a dolly tub ;-)
where do you sit and read the paper , while you are waiting ?
In the tea room next door.
Question Author
The guy who owns said tea room lives on my street- he's justifiably all kind of furious!
