What sort of work do you do? Just being nosey.
So that's above the official rate of inflation then!
I know some who haven't had a payrise for a few years (me included)
Why should there be any expectation of a better increase, mikey (given that reading between the lines you are not to impressed with it) and why do you think it has something to do with Cameron's statement?
^...too impressed...
I do like your threads and share quite a few of your views, but I wonder why you keep throwing in the "We are all in this together apparently !" phrase- whether it be about your pay rise or about compensation for victims. It does tend to lead to people making political points and then others retaliate and takes the discussion off course a bit.
Congratulations on your pay rise though

Wolfie...I am a Freelance Social Survey Interviewer. I m quite happy to be cast in the same box as the Nurses. But my point is that dave says one thing and does another. MP's are just about to award themselves a whopping 7% pay increase, and this on top of a very generous salary to start with.
I thought the MPs pay rise had been set for them and was actually not an increase because of corresponding reductions in other benefits, but I think that one was done to death a few weeks ago. And wasn't it 10% not 7%?
I wondered if that was your field of work. My pal's husband does stuff like that. Ambushing shoppers in supermarkets and stuff. Frankie did a cat food testing survey thing for him.

I retired at 40 ~ I recommend it. Well I recommend it if you have a Civil Service pension and personal income insurance.
Surely the quote should read , we are all in this together from bankers and MPs.
^^ apart from, damned keyboard.

FF....glad you like my posts !

You are correct....my purpose was almost entirely "political". dave won the Election with his phrase " We are all in this together" ringing in our ears. But we are not all in this together, are we ?

The recent budget will increase child poverty but also increase the wealth of already wealthy or potentially wealthy people. So I reserve the right to make political points where I can. They may not be popular, but as I am a Labour supporter, and in the minority here on AB, its something I have got used to, and it doesn't bother me one little bit !
I and quite a few others were made redundant from a bank, baza, and many have had pay freezes so not all bankers are raking in the money- but yes some seem to do nicely.

One reason for the IPSA award for MPs was "Over the last parliament, MPs’ pay increased by 2%, compared to 5% in the public sector and 10% in the whole economy. It is right that we make this one-off increase and then formally link MPs’ pay to public sector pay,” said an IPSA spokesman. I'm not saying I agree- I'm just putting the other side

Wolfie...what your pal's husband does sounds more like Market Research, which is very different from what I, and my Company does. I can't post a link to my Company, as I wish to remain reasonably confidential !

Here is a wiki link about Social Research, if that is any help.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_research

I'll read that after my nap Mikey.

I'll just come down to Walesland and wander around shouting "Wee Willie, I'm looking for a Wee Willie" I am sure that you will bail me out of the local nick.
>but as I am a Labour supporter, and in the minority here on AB, its something I have got used to, and it doesn't bother me one little bit !

And in a minority in the country, it seems based on the election results.

I think it's good that people argue for what they believe in- I just feel that the "we're all in it together" jibe loses its impact if it's used even in discussions such as the sexual abuse thread earlier.

FF...9,347,304 people voted 30.4% Labour on May 7th, as against 36.9%, 11,334,576 for the Tories...not enough to win, I will grant you but hardly a tiny minority.

My comments about the victims of paedophile activity and their compensation were perhaps not as clear as they could have been. My point was that the Tories have been in power since 2010, and they have had ample opportunity to address the problem of why victims of child sexual abuse should have their justly awarded compensation reduced, and they have shown no inclination to do so. hey have , however, given lots of thought on subjects such as increasing child poverty and raising the IHT rate.
How much has your BT pension increased by?
Question Author
Not sure crafty, and I can't find the letter that they sent me. But not very much, as I took the opportunity that they offered, to change future increases
in exchange for a one-off payment last year. Anyway, my pension only accounted for 24 years, so its not very much to start with.
1% is the standard the public sector have had to put up with for years. As for Civil Service pensions, the days of retiring early with a big lump sum and enough to live on are way gone.
