Good afternoon lovely people. I have sent a note to the AbEd explaining my absence (new kneecap op, poorly husband, poorly youngest child etc etc) and I seem to have escaped without an after school detention. I hope you are all well and I have missed being on here.
Anyway, I need help with a calculation for some fabric. I want to make a bed cover which has to be 275 cm long and 225 cm wide. I am making it with a central seam.
The fabric I want to buy is 137 cm wide and has a repeat pattern every 32 cm
Taking into account the horizontal repeat, how much fabric will I need?
I am truly useless at working out this sort of thing.

Welcome back mrsO, hope you are all on the mend.

Thanks marval x
You will end up with 3.5 pattern repeats either side of the central seam. Ther will be 24.5cm of wastage in your 137 wide fabric each side of the seam.
Hope the Overall family are all back to Match fitness v soon. X
Welcome back, lovely lady, I hope all are on the mend. I'm sure Gness will be able to work that out, it's giving me a headache. Now if you want odds on the winner of the Irish 1,000 guineas, I could help you with that xx
I don't understand the question, sorry! Anyhoo, welcome back & best wishes to you & the family :-)

Zacs...thanks, but how much fabric do I need to order?

Thanks psybs and LIK, hope you are both well x
Welcome back, hope you are all fighting fit now, why not buy the bed cover and save yourself and us the headache of trying to work it out.
You need to order 2 widths x the correct length (275cm - plus a bit for seams?) if you want it to look symmetrical.

Personally I'd nip round to John Lewis. ;-)
My best guess is 6m, assuming it is single faced and not double faced.
Same as Eccles......I think.....two lengths plus 32 cm......leaves a bit for seams top and bottom......good bit of waste at sides to make things with....

Nice to see you......x
Blasted machine playing up
Cushion or pillow covers ^^
Good to see you back, can you please explain what is a cm?
You can use any wastage to trim plain pillowcases to make a set, glad you are back. x
Nice to see you back, mrs overstep.

Thank you all.
I rang John Lewis in York and they worked it out for me. They only sell the fabric in whole metres so I will need 4 metres.
I am making it for a woman who must have more money than sense. The fabric costs £10 a metre and she then wants the bed cover edged with an expensive trim. Added on to this will be my labour costs.
This cover is to go on her bed so that her (rather large and very smelly) dog can lie on it without ruining her duver cover!
I think I will make some cushion covers with the excess fabric so that the mutt will be really comfy lol
morning overowl ;x)

you couldn't run me up a pair of 20x27 cushion inners while you're at it could you?

Morning humber xx
I am also making a load of cushions for this woman so yes I could make theose for you
only kidding mrs overlock! check yer post later though x

no disrespect to your handiwork, but more money than sense must be right - an old blanket obviously won't do!!
