Just looked out of the window to check the weather. Calm and dry. Fox jumped over the wall of downstairs' garden. Only sign of life! Reassuring.

why reassuring - the rest of the world may have been wiped out in a cataclysmic event

Might just have noticed. Abers still posting.
Close completely silent, no cars moving, nobody walking a dog. No lights on. Just me and the fox.
I'd love to see a fox, haven't seen one for ages .
I don't like urban foxes :(
Daisy, it's getting on for midnight, what would usually be happening this time of night ...a full on free for all ? ( glad I'm not in your neighbourhood )
Question Author
We had a fox family here, believe youngsters have moved to new territory.
Not unusual to see parents and two cubs last year.
Question Author
Seekerz, been like this most of the day.
We've lived here for 6 1/2 years and in all that time I have never seen a squirrel. Right on the edge of the village next to open countryside, yet when we lived in a town there were squirrels everywhere.
Question Author
Oh, midnight is still 40 minutes in the future.
Town in the new country, it's where all the free food is without pesticides, and shelter with hopefully trees and hedges not to mention under sheds, sherrardk.

I have badgers, foxes, newts, frogs, the occasional hedgehog in my garden. I live in a town and don't have a pond. I spend many hours watching sparrowhawks, buzzards and kestrels not only flying past but eating their prey on my fence. Quite a mess they leave behind, too.
A barn owl flies past my living room window around 4pm every day and the herons are constantly on a fly past.

The urban garden is quite a jungle these days
I forgot to mention the squirrels, sadly all grey.

Also have squirrels and frogs.
You can have my slugs, Daisy. What's your address? I'm sure they'll be fine if I bodge holes in the jiffy bags :D
The 'country side' is a bit pants for wildlife actually. When we lived in Aylesbury we had frogs, hedgehogs, squirrels galore, occasional fox sighting, rabbits, even saw a peacock walking down the road, etc. Live in the countryside (ish) and you see Jack - apart from flipping rats!!!!

No thanks hc. Last year I thought my garden had been turned into Slug Butlins. A few years ago had those awful toxic caterpillars.
Oh, we have bats, too. My biggest thrill though was seeing a firecrest - I know they are not particularly rare but I've only ever seen one, and that was in my garden.
Ewwwww. I dread the flying ants. Batten down the hatches, door, windows and chimneys when I see them emerge from the lawn.

Last Christmas Day a heron sat on the fence in my daughter's garden for ages. Urban situation, no pond or stream for miles.
Do you live near a canal? It is fascinating to see the herons nesting along the canal not far from me, with the factories as a backdrop.
We have squirrels, they bury nuts in my pots and baskets. It's quite funny to see them running along the wall next to conservatory with mouths stuffed with nuts. If they detect any movement inside they freeze and look at you, very funny.
We also have deer coming to visit. They come to grassy area outside. If they see me inside they come up to the rear gate to be fed. They don't have the courage to feed from my hand but are only about six inches away from my out stretched hand. I drop it on the grass for them.
