Why?

Why does having your photograph taken make you feel like that -what do you think it is that makes you like that?

I'm really intrigued especially as I find that people who dont want their photograph taken are often amazing characters.

(Some amazing people are missing off photos and I think its sad) I accept sometimes cameras are intrusive and they are a kind of gun!

Would love to hear your thoughts.

I'm just not photogenic, so yes, I do hate having my photograph taken. I'm not an amazing character though. I'd do far better behind the camera.
I hate having my photo taken as I look terrible in photos. I don't think I look too bad normally, but photos seem to exaggerate every bad point while capturing me with an awkward attempt at a smile and terrible body language.
In the days when we used to get holiday pics developed at the chemist, I'd go through the pack and throw away most of the ones with me in them before anyone else saw them.
I don't like having my photo taken, find it so false to 'pose' - obviously I am amazing though (imagine a sarcastic winky face thing - not sure how to do one).
.

Some one observed somewhere 2000 I think that
those who write about (having) cancer are never photographed.

I was having tmt for ca colon at the time and - yup I have no photos from that time.....
I only warn people off about taking my pic if I have a suspicion/inkling that it will end up on Farcebook.
I don't mind having my photo taken. I suppose I'm not afraid of looking a bit silly sometimes! Haha!
Loathe getting my photo taken - hence 2 mirrors in the whole house and placed very high up so that I can't see too much of me - only for putting on my makeup -that is all.
I hate having my photo taken, I'm not photogenic at all. The best photos of me have been taken when I'm not paying attention (or I'm drunk). I also don't like my smile in photos, it looks weird, so if you do have a photo of me, I probably won't be smiling. I'm actually not a bad photographer when I want to be so I much prefer that side of things anyway.
Peter I had a professional photoshoot done at the time and it's my favourite picture of me.
I also posted my skinhead, the baldy look, my wig.
What she said ^
Doh, meaning CD, except I'm not a good photographer either.
I hate it and run from cameras. We didn't even have photos at our wedding some 40 odd years ago and I have no photos of me anywhere in the house. I also hate mirrors. I love taking photos and reckon, like China, I am quite a good photographer. I certainly am not photogenic - I would rather not be reminded of what I look like!!

Stephen - someone else might think you are photogenic and I guess it depends who you are comparing yourself to. How do you know you're right though?
My friend's wedding was really quirky and she had no real 'posed' pics.. just kinda 'pap' pics but in a good natural way.. the best wedding photo's I've ever seen taken while the guests were waiting to be called for the posed pics... (that didn't happen).. hold on.. I'm repeating myself... anyhoo.. some were black & white too... very atmospheric
Some people seem to really love posing for photos and have studio type photos of themselves all over the place. I find that really strange. Why would you want to look at photos of yourself!
I prefer unposed pics rather then posed ones, it captures the real you, if that makes sense?
I must admit an uncle took a few snapshops of our wedding. I didn't even realise he was doing it. In most of them I am holding a brown paper bag - don't ask!!
Question Author
Peter thank you - I didn't know this and it is understandable but I hadn't thought about it. I'm sorry that you were unwell.

Lofty - I am delighted you have some even if they are in a paperbag...I have visions of you running from the photographer..sometimes you have to.
I was actually holding a brown paper bag in all the snaps! Someone gave me a book in a brown paper bag when we came out of the registry office and for some reason Mr LL was holding the book and I was left with the brown paper bag. A very unconventional wedding on a Monday morning. Nothing wedding like about it at all!!
Question Author
Lofty - thats what I mean - its great the photos exist, the brown paper bag sounds fascinating and it would look different being with the bride all the time! you've got me interested in the story now. Was the book a novel? - wedding present? Do you still have it?

There was a photo in our house of my mother holding me over a cliff by the ankles - it disappeared and another one of biscuits in the middle of the main road. We didn't have a biscuit jar! We had alot of our dog wearing a headscarf and rollers sometimes. My sister used to cut herself out of all the photographs so you can imagine what the photo album looked like. Those memories of her are gone forever thought. She was very self-conscious at the time and my mother probably told her it was a good idea.
