Does anyone else remember that miserable feeling when Sing Something Simple came onto the radio at 7pm on a Sunday evening after the top 20 chart show? I always associated it with the fact that it was nearly time to get ready for bed as it was school the next morning.

I thought it was just after Jimmy Clitheroe?
what the hell is/was "sing something simple"??
Cliff Adams and the Cliff Adams Singers - "Sing something simple, as cares go by........" I remember my mam listening to this on a Sunday night 40 years ago and more!! Think it ran from the mid 50s to 2000 or thereabouts
Fluff- It was a radio programme on the Light Programme. Gentle music to relax to - preferred Led Zeppelin myself lol
I remember it, it was cringe-makingly awful! imho.

from the vitality of the Top 10 to that dreadful muzak dirge of Chris Adams and his awful arrangements

He could turn even great tunes into something that made one want to cut one's own wrists!
Chris doh!

Cliff Adams

He should have been pushed over one
was it the x factor of the 50's :-)

give me LZ anyday :-)
Yup - it was one of those Pavlov moments, hear that theme, know that the weekend is well and truly over - school looms.

I remembered it as The George Mitchell Minstrels, welshyorkie, (great for black and white telly) but I'm not as young as I was. :P
The late Mr 9401 senior was a great fan.

'We'll sing something simple for you, something for yoooooooou.'
Utterly dire, wish you hadn't reminded me!
Wow .... I'm such a whipper snapper.

"sing Something Simple" was something the insect-headed worker-wife and mother of Graham would sing , when her son was accused of asian bashing.
yes i remember goon show at lunch time then family favourites then sing something simple to round the day off ,then if we were really lucky we could watch black and white minstrel show in black and white lol
Douglas9401 - Different generations, as i reach heinz next month, I grew up with The Beatles, Stones, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath et al - hardly Sing Something Simple material. Would love to hear Ozzy Osbourne singing some of the songs mam used to listen to !!!

Thud!
It's dreary Sunday evening
Ah, dear old Fluff. "Kisses on the bottom". :)
We used to call it Sing Something Sinful in our house, because if you listened to the words thats what it sounded like. Sundays we also listened to 2 way family favourites, Round the Horne. Beyond Our Ken, There was also Betty Marsden and the Frazer Hayes Four. Its all taking me back in my memory to somewhere I would rather not go!
