Television or Computer?

If you had to choose between a TV or a personal computer - and could only have one or the other - which would you choose and why? I would miss my computer much more than the TV. It provides information, videos and news items from anywhere in the world, and will play music of my own choosing by way of 'play lists'. When it comes to News I would rather read than listen, though some people may not be so fortunate in that respect. It would be interesting to know what others find to be the most important benefits of either.

Personal computer anyday.....dont tend to watch too much TV, especially in the summer ......you can watch tv streamed live on the computer too on certain stations......watched Dragons Den last night on comp whilst working away on another page and had it on PIP in the corner..........talking of Dragons....i am starting to warm to Deborah Meaden, who i find quite foxy in a way.......either i'm going mad or my old age ( i'm only 44! ) is showing through..........if it gets worse, i'll visit the quack methinks :0)

PC, although I do love TV.

TV is of course the more limited medium, and as you say, most of its pluses can be gained from your PC anyway.

It would be the PC, there is so much you can do on it. Most of the tv viewing is rubbish anyway.

Geezer, That's interesting - you obviously have a better understanding of it than I have. What is a TV card and a PCI bus? I'm all for learning something new!!

You look at the back of your PC and you will see slots, some may be blocked off, others may have sockets and stuff poking out. Where there is stuff poking out they are from cards that have been slotted into sockets on the main computer board *i.e. the motherboard).

Those sockets will be connected together and those connections are referred to as a bus, in the case of today's computers the commonly used bus is the PCI bus.

If you want more facilities on your PC (in this case I'm referring to a TV card, but other cards are available) you can purchase the card you want, open up the PC, slot the card into the socket, and then close up the PC again. On next reboot the PC should realise it has something extra and spend a little time changing its settings etc. so it can be used.

My woman has a TV card in her PC, uses it to watch when she is doing her ironing (in the study). Once the card had been installed all that was necessary was to plug the aerial lead in the back (into the card) , and to install/run the software. But I can not recommend the card she has as the company has now gone bust, which is a pity because it was a reasonable product, well recommended at the time.

Try checking Google or Wikipedia for more info, or try your local PC shop and ask to browse their PCI cards.
