The nearest civilisation is a sleepy local town called Murwillumbah. (10 mins away)

The camp is in Dungay Creek, located in the middle of a huge World Heritage area of tangled rainforest dominated by an extinct volcano.

The celebs spent the time before going into the jungle enjoying the luxury of a 840-a-night hotel called the Palazzo Versace Hotel on the Gold Coast.

So NSW rather than Queensland then - thanks
No, Filming is from the top of a thickly wooded valley on the border of New South Wales and Queensland. It's classed as in Queensland, though the nearest main town is in NSW.
On the radio last night someone said that the actual camp where the celebrities had to suffer is in NSW, but the place where the film and production crew stay is in Qland - and that the production is done on Qland time (one hour behind NSW time (Qland does not have summer time)).  So wherever it is, it must be very close to the Qland/NSW border.
