What are your favourite foreign movies?
I think the best one's i have seen are definately Amelie (probably one of my favourite movies of all time!), Pans Labryinth (spellings probably wrong!) - just the creature with the eyes in the hands was enough to make it a great film!!
Also Goodbye Lenin & The Edukators were thoroughly enjoyable.
Not really a foreign movie but i would highly recommend Everything is Illuminated - also probably in my top 5 favourite movies!

have you ever seen Les Enfants du Paradis? It was made in France during the German occupation - every time the Nazi authorities turned up the cast had to melt away into the crowds - but it's a wonderful romantic drama and I think people who like Amelie would probably appreciate it too.

No i haven't but i will definately try to watch it at some point. thankyou for that!
forgot to mention Delicatessen is also a good film if a little strange! - by the same person as Amelie.
Luc Besson in 'Taxi' and the New Zealand film 'Stickmen'
There's just too many to choose from! It depends on the genre too. I've seen so many foreign films that I've lost track!! But my faves would have to be:-

Portuguese - Pan's Labyrinth
Japanese - Spirited Away / Battle Royale
Korean - Old Boy (TOP film!!!)
Spanish - Pan's Labyrinth
Russian - **********
Italian - Life is Beautiful
Brazilian - City of God
French - Amelie / Love me if you dare / Irreversible / Taxi / La Haine
The Russian one was 'Night Watch' by the way (one word). Dunno why that word was blocked! :oS
well, that would because of letters 5 to 8 inclusive, Champagne, wash your mouth out
I don't know about the best but my favourite is probably Battle Royale
I always thought Battle Royale had a fatal flaw: it was based on the idea that these kids are the worst of the worst, totally incorrigible, but actually they're quite nice and help each other. So there was no great tension between seeing them want to survive and wanting to see them get what they deserved.
er, I meant 'between wanting to see them survive...'
But it was meant to be the kids in the whole society that had gone off the rails, that class were just picked at random weren't they?
Great film.... Battle Royale

French - Jules et Jim and Amlie.

Italian - Malna and Pane e Tulipani

I love a whole load of Asian cinema. I love the Vengeance trilogy. With the fade to black and white version of Sympathy for Lady Vengeance being the best, in my opinion. People often think this is the weaker of the three but I find it quite chilling and beautifully filmed.

lol night w@tch is a good'un.

lol... just ordered that on Amazon GS :) due to your recommendation :D xxx
which one???? Lady vengeance I hope but I expect you meant night w@tch
Ichi the Killer (Jap)
Audition (Jap)
Das Boot (Kraut)
Il Mio West (Italian)
You expect right GS lol.... ;D x
I quite like Cinema Paradiso, Jean de Florette/ Manon des Sources and a bit of an odd one.Betty Blue. I also like most films with Jean Reno (Les Visiteurs, Leon), or Chow Yun Fat (Crouching Tiger, Curse etc).
Solomon a Gaenor (Welsh movie
13 Tzameti - French/Georgian - FANTASTIC!!
Cinema Paradiso - Italian
Ricomincio Da Tre - Italian
District 13 - French - BRILLIANT!
Old Boy - Korean
The Eye - Chinese
City of Violence - Korean
House Of Flying Daggers - Chinese
Curse of The Golden Flower - Chinese
Shutter - Thai
