Why did the Lawyer representing the TV host who was suing a newspaper for libel say, ''My client will be exonerated'' ? His client wasn't on trial.

Sorry, I did not watch the programme but would it not mean that the TV host would be vindicated of the defamatory statements made against him/her.

Why wouldn't a lawyer say it? It means the same whether they said it or you and I - his client will be proved that whatever is being said/accused is not true. I think you are just being picky. I was going to say pedantic, but I think picky is more apt.
