Did anyone watch the programme on channel 5 last night about the woman who lost 30 stones? I thought it was very sad, especially when she had gone through so much and her last operation was to be done in the uk and the surgeon refused to do it at this present time. How deflated she must have fealt

I did see it maggie01. I had to admire the Brit surgeon in fact. He stuck to his scruples no matter what money was being offered. He knew it was too dangerous and she should have gracefully accepted that.

Btw, how on earth does she pay for all of this? Do you think it is just loans? I hate to bring it up but sitting on her butt eating for most of her life will not have helped her hold down a job and as for savings, surely she spent what money she had on food.

Yes I saw it too, and the thing that I found saddest of all was that despite all the pain and anguish that she has gone through she still turns to food for comfort!! Hopefully she will eventually get the counselling she so obviusly needs!

I agree with sunflower about the British surgeon.

And also, I know her initial life-saving surgery helped her to loose 30 stone, but did they think about how she was going to eat sensibly after they'd reduced her capability of food intake and she'd lost the weight, she couldn't even stomach to eat 4 mouthfulls!... She's gone from one extreme to the other. I'm no expert but surely that can't be any good for her in the future. Her face and neck looked very gaunt!

I just felt it was a very unfortunate family, and it was very sad and moving to watch, as you say libertie, she obviously needs counselling. Why did she not have any of this before any of her surgical procedures? Even though she looks a lot better following her surgery, I dont think she'll ever be satisifed with her appearance. She needs to be happy within herself, after all, she still see's herself as the fat girl!

Oh I missed this. Does anyone know if it will be repeated? Thanks:--)
Fina, just looked on channel 5's website, it is on Thursday 16th March at 23.00 for an hour
Hi Maggie yes it was very sad and I also thought it was extremely professional of the British surgeon especially as he was on telly. We keep seeing progs esp from the US about people have bariatric surgery but what happens to the state of mind which tells us that we 'have to eat and eat everything'. If youre overweight its usually because youve got a psychological problem not because you just eat too much.. I know I am that person !!
Oh thanks sarah_03uk. I'll be watching that, just marked it down:-))
Sorry, I know this is no laughing matter, but when maggie01, talking about a woman losing 30 stone, says -

"How deflated she must have felt"

- it do make I chuckle :-). Does this make me a bad person?

Must admit littleoldme.I too had a chuckle, not in a nasty way as Im sure maggie01 did'nt mean for it to come out like that. Im sure no pun was intended but it was funny:-)))

I apologise for using the word deflated. I didn't realise how it must have read untill someone pointed it out. Thinking about it, the surgeon was right in as much that it is a physocolical problem. I just thought she had come so far and gone through so much the arms and bust operation would have been the icing on the cake. Anyone who has dieted knows your problems do not dissapear with the weight but it would have been a good start.

physocological even (that doesn't look right either).
