Has anyone seen this? We went to see it today and I was absolutely knocked out. Absolutely harrowing (child sexual abuse, self harm, suicide etc.) so not for the faint hearted but I can honestly say that I have never seen a more compelling drama. The entire cast is wonderful but James Norton stands out in what is a mesmerising performance - an Olivier surely? (and other accolades). I have always admired James Norton but this must be the performance of his career to date. We have been talking about it all evening.

I would love to see it.  I believe the play is coming out as a film.  James Norton is an amazing actor.  I'm a big fan.

We saw it as a film Lottie (it was released on 28 September) but I think it has a limited distribution. Get to see it if you can but be prepared because it is very harrowing - people were weeping loudly in the cinema :-(

Thanks Toorak.  Difficult to get out at present, been housebound for a while but hopefully one day Netflix will be able to come to the rescue.

I am sorry to hear that - maybe you will be able to access it via the National Theatre website? (I think they have productions you can download though maybe too soon for this one)

He is one of our most talented actors and I would love to see the play for that reason, but I have been put off by the content. Do I want to see him badly enough to sit through something harrowing? Should I?

I read the book a few years ago  - by Hanya Yanagihara .  A very powerful read disturbing but full of love and humanity.

Maydup, I'd be happy to just sit and look at James Norton all day! ;0))

😊

Maydup - I won't deny that it is harrowing and I found some bits very uncomfortable but in retrospect I am so glad I went to see it

Rosie - the book sounds very similar to the film. I haven't read it but Mr T started and struggled with it

lottie - I could watch him all day too 😍

I have checked the NT website and it's not available online yet .... but perhaps worth checking now and then.

thanks for all your answers: I would love to give you all BA
