I have heard of satire, but this was a deliberate Lefftie attempt to belittle the next President of the USA.

Yes, that was ITV
Have I got news for you has ripped politicians apart for 20 odd seasons nothing new!!
It might have been ITV but it shows we've been ripping politicians to shreds for years.

And as Isaly says HIGNFY does it weekly.
Ummm....yes, all the time and sorely missed IMHO.
dave50 could have added comedians to the question he posed a few days ago.

Has Obama ever been a target for satirists?
Talbot - //Has Obama ever been a target for satirists? //

I am sure he has - but satirists have to work with the material available.

In the same way that Cameron was far too bland to spend much time on, Tony Benn was a positive gift.

So although President Obama may have been given an easy ride because he lacks any stand-out idiosyncrasies in either appearance or personality, President Trump will be a gift that keeps on giving.
And I'm sure he hasn't.
Down with this sort of thing!!!!

/// Nonsense AOG....its satire, something the BBC has been doing very well since at least TWTNTW in 1962. ///

Time has changed a lot since 1962.

We now live in an age when some are allowed the privlage to be offended, so certain subjects and personalities are no longer allowed to be satirised, while it is perfectly in order to satire others.
Andy Hughes - "So although President Obama may have been given an easy ride because he lacks any stand-out idiosyncrasies in either appearance or personality... "

Obama was lucky then. It didn't stop the dull John Major being pilloried by the Spitting Image producers for example!

Can we have an example please?
Probably the Minstrels...or Gollywogs...

White people can't black up anymore!!

/// The alternative would be forelock tugging and bowing, which would be equally unpalatable. ///

No one is asking for such things, but an equally balanced show, rather than not picking constantly on one particular politician as we have seen the whole of the media do, simply because Donald Trump is his own man, who doesn't kowtow to PC.

Similar insults and hilarity has been shown towards not only politicians such as Nigel Farage but also those who had the audacity to be a Brexiter.

/// Andy....to listen to AOG, you could be forgiven for thinking that the Beeb had satirised Mother Teresa, RATHER THAN A VULGAR LOUD-MOUTH RACIST OGRE ! ///

Classic!!!! Proof of the pudding, that just about says it all.
AOG...for goodness sake !

The Beeb, along with every other TV station, has been making politicians the victims of satire for nearly 50 years. This program was no different. Get over it and find another topic to entertain us with !
Rich Hall's Presidential Grudge Match on BBC4, was a lot funnier, and what a clever writer & presenter he is.

/// Have I got news for you has ripped politicians apart for 20 odd seasons nothing new!! ///

A completely different type of show than the one BBC2 aired last night.

Have you actually seen both shows, so as to come up with your failed analogy?

HIGNFY does not spend the whole of it's programme time ripped one particular politician apart, it is a cynical view of various recent news items.

Donald Trump is not being 'picked on' because he doesn't kowtow to PC - he is a satirical target because of the way in which he presents himself visually, personally, verbally, emotionally and politically.

He is a target because of his Neanderthal sexist and racist attitudes, his inability to form complete sentences, and his to-date repeated exhibitions of his unsuitability to hold the office to which he has been elected.

Ah! the sure signs that a raw nerve has been exposed once again.
AOG - Trump, his style, his mannerisms, his attitude...and the list goes on...makes him easy pickings.
