Is Gibraltar Really British?

I ask because the last time i was in the uk, brum in fact, when i tried to pay for drinks in a bar with a £10 gibraltar note, i was refused. Since then a friend who helped me out has had trouble trying to change it in several banks and the post office. any suggestions?

Of course it is, it feels far more British than Brum. We returned a couple of years ago, having left in the late 70s and if you ignore all the tacky developments, spray-tan-sur-mer, it's still much the same place although it seemed much smaller. We met lots of people who we had either known or who knew people we'd known, for closeness it could give Ambridge a run for its money.

Went a few years ago and it's very British.

You also may have trouble changing Scottish notes in England even though the bank accepts them as sterling.

Perhaps they are legal currency but not legal tender here. The shop or individual aren't forced to accept them.

ummm, i've never had any problems changing scottish bank notes in banks+post offices.
sorry if i've upset a few abers, it wasn't my intention, i just feel a little let down by stupid currency laws, surely in this day and age, you should be able to use all british money in any british city, town or enclave.

Although most places in England now accept Scottish notes very few will accept Northern Ireland ones, let alone Gibraltar ones. I can understand why Santander don't accept them; they are Spanish!

Piggy...banks will change them it's just that pubs etc might not.

When I worked in the pub I'd accept them but I've seen many people refuse.

I suppose the only other alternative is a Travel Agency but then it will cost.

I would expect that Santander don't accept Gib. notes simply because they "are" Spanish Jackdaw.
