Does anyone know how to stop Microsoft pestering me to upgrade to Windows 10? It is a disaster. I did take up the offer to start with and it cost me £140 and a lot of aggro to get Windows 7 Professional reinstated. Windows 10 wiped out all my settings and a lot of my data.

Make sure you regularly back up your whole system, take a deep breath, and ignore it.

There are probably registry changes you can make to avoid it, but next urgent update list would probably reinstall it. Whilst you let MS change your system you don't really have any defence.
I didn't get a choice - my laptop closed down while I was using it, then came straight back on with a message that it was installing Windows 10. At least it "only" cost me £60 to get Windows 7 reinstated; I'm tempted to send the bill to Microsoft.

There's a solution here http://www.howtogeek.com/220723/how-to-uninstall-windows-10-and-downgrade-to-windows-7-or-8.1/
