With the benefit of our advanced years, what advice should we give to a young person who is about to start to make their own way in the world?

For chaps I would start with

"Don't keep your darts in the same pocket as your noddies ..."

Lol. That's a great one. I'd say "don't listen to your elders. They've already done it..."
Good advice that, Dave.
if the younger generation are anything like we were they wouldn't listen anyway.
Pull your trousers up!
I was going to say 'Don't do what I did' but Pixie beat me tot!
to it^^
Lol. It's because we've just read gness's thread, psybbs!

mobile phones & i-pads are NOT essential clothing
To my son.....Don't believe her if she says she is on the pill....oh how I wish he had listened.

To my daughter.....Know how to change a tyre and use power tools...then you will only have to use your feminine charms when you want to...not when you need to.
Try everything once. You never know. You may enjoy it. Then you can do it again.
Don't buy things you don't need with money you don't have to impress people you don't like.
Brilliant 2sp. Quite a few adults could learn that.
To be honest, pixie, I pinched it from somewhere but I can't remember where I read it!

It is good though.
Make sure the home you choose for your mother has a bar.
Like yourself. Really. don't rely on anyone else for your inner happiness. The people who really love you won't always be able to be there and the people who don't will hurt you badly.
Gness, you mean like those bars in the bath enclosure?:)
No I flipping don't, Stewey! I want a proper bar with Guinness and dishy barmen twiddling cocktail shakers or they're out of the will!!!
I knew that, Gness:) As an aside, Guinness is quite catching on with the younger people at the bar I go to; however, it's not on tap: just in the cans.
I asked my 2 teenage daughters the best advice they've had-
15 yr old - if you're given lemons, make lemonade
16 yr old - if you're bothered about something, chill :-\:-\
Cans aren't too bad, Stewey.....but a pint poured in Dublin....by a good looking barman can't be beaten....Not too keen on these vibrating gadgets they have now.....☺
Ahh, gness, you can't beat a vibrating gadget...
