Question Author
she's a big besom Maggie.
Yes really enjoyed it. Looking good for the series I hope.
Yes Anne, I really enjoyed it. Wasn't looking forward to Sunday evenings TV now Mr Selfridge had finished but this is looking good!
Unfortunately found Mr. Selfridge boring. This seems much better.
I'm not sure............
I liked it.
so far, it is the BBC doing what it does best!
This is far better than Mr Selfridge. I got bored with it and stopped watching.
i liked it, but some things don't ring true, however it's only the first episode so will see how it pans out.
Charlie Chaplins Daughter is very beautiful. takes after her Grandmother Oona.
patsy

Oona Castilla Chaplin (born 4 June 1986) is a Spanish actress. She is the granddaughter of Charlie Chaplin and the great-granddaughter of American playwright Eugene O'Neill
I have it recorded and plan to watch later this week but i am now a little worried given that all previous comments are from ladies. In your collective opinion, ladies, is it a programme mainly for the fairer sex, as Call The Midwife was, or would us chaps enjoy it, too?
i think it should be for all, however i wish they wouldn't, unless the book has, include any romantic tosh, because for the most part it wouldn't have happened, and in many ways, though some parts are handled well, if you want a good book on the WW1 from a standpoint of a Volunteer read Vera Brittain's book Testament of Youth. The tv series was around the 80's i think, but was also quite faithful to her biography - she was a remarkable woman in extraordinary times, and circumstance
It's the romantic tosh i'm most worried about, Emmie. I stopped watching the first episodes of New Worlds last week about 20 minutes in when the guy rode off with the blonde he had had kidnapped and she talked of him ravishing her.
it worries me too, because for the most part this was extremely hard work, never ending grind that the VAD;s and nurses did, and much of what they did largely went unrewarded in terms of medals, and standing in the communities when they came home. Vera Brittain was similar to the girls, she was very middle class, and rather sheltered, but after losing her fiance, brother and most of his friends, the officer class to the war, she joined the VAD's, her book is one of my treasured possessions.
emmie. I meant to say she was Charlie Chaplins Grandaughter. Lol. Senior moment.
ss'ok
