Girl has informed me she is appearing in the school's talent show tomorrow - I will now have to endure hours of awful 'turns' from other people's children. It starts at 1 and doesn't finish until 3.15 and I've still got the thing up the church to endure next week, roll on the end of term!

Snigger, my days of that are well and truly over :)

She only told me today, I haven't had time to mentally prepare for the nightmare (sorry, delight) that it will be.
In 15 years, you will be lamenting the lack of these shows, the issue being who is the talent on their arm and whether they are sane and savoury.
Actually I lie, I have to go to a disco with my daughter tomorrow night , I don't normally go these things but it's her kickboxing club and they're giving her an award that she doesn't know about.

I told her we're walking cos I'm gonna have to have a drink :)

Just told himself that it starts at 1 and he just sniggered and said 'Chirst, that's gong to be a long afternoon'.
It's not so long, Sherrardk, that you were bemoaning the fact that Thing 1 and Thing 2 had started school full time, leaving you on your own. Now you're getting the chance to spend some of that school time with your kids; it seems somewhat churlish to complain!
Question Author
I miss my children but I don't like other children, especially other children who are singing or showing off a 'talent' PLUS some of the teachers will do a 'turn', urgh, so cringey.
Have an early lunch and make it a "sweet and sour" and then you will be in good shape.
Maybe other parents are saying the things about your kids..
Question Author
If they heard my daughter sing they would (she really is awful) - I don't dislike any particular child I am just not keen on children in general although people assume I do like them because I have so many if my own.
sherrardk,
"girl has informed me". says it all really doesn't it.
How many children do you have? I had to sit through a disco for an hour today...couldn't escape fast enough.

Browntrout, sorry I don't understand your post. If you are in some way upset about me referring to my daughter as 'girl' I will explain the reference for you (as I have had to on numerous bloody occasions). I have five children - rather than saying my son, 13 years old, my second eldest son, 9 years old, my eldest daughter, 8 years old, my youngest daughter (one of twins), 5 years old and my youngest son (one of twins), 5 years old I refer to them as boy #1, boy #2, girl, thing 1 and thing 2.
Weren't you a teacher sher? And you don't like children? Hmmm that confirms my suspicions about teachers:-)
Question Author
Yes ladybirder, I was a secondary teacher but I have never made a secret of the fact that I did it for the holidays. However, all the primary school teaches I have met do seem to genuinely like children. I taught in an upper school where they were teenagers, very different to 'children'.
sherrardk,
I'm not upset by anything. I was just struck by your odd way of referring to your daughter together with your apparent reluctance to suffer the performance with good grace. There must be worse things you could be doing.
It was probably just me they never liked then sher:-)

You're very brave admitting you did it for the holidays!
Question Author
Browntrout - 'sherrardk, "girl has informed me". says it all really doesn't it.' - and that implies what exactly?

I see from your profile that you are relatively new here. I will go and I will clap, I will catch her eye and smile encouragingly, I will give her the thumbs up at every opportunity and I will tell her she was brilliant and the best one of the afternoon. However, I am not some sort of brain dead numpty who thinks the afternoon will be fabulous, it won't be, it will be tedious but I would not miss it for the world.
Question Author
Ladybirder - obviously never said that in an interview! I went into teaching so that if I ever had children I would be around to look after them in the holidays, nothing more or less. Himself is an ex primary deputy head and he is fabulous with children and does the entertainment at all of our kids' birthday parties, the kids love him and the other parents always seem gobsmacked.
Couldn't you hide your iPod under your hair and only take em out when you need to ?
