I am surprised that there were no complaints regarding a certain remark that was made in Ripper Street on Monday night.

There were a group of men talking in their club, and one made a remark about the Irish, saying that Irish men are just 'Blacks' turned inside out, I use the word Black but i think the original description was much worse.

Can anyone remember exactly what the loud mouth man said?

He came to a sticky end however because an Irish man planted a bomb under his bed, and blew him up.

Don't watch it - it's called being true to the way it was back then
It's how people spoke back then. It would be pointless using queens English in the slums now, wouldn't it?

I've just watched the episode, recorded from last night.

I think he used the word "***".

I doubt there would be complaints as the word was used in context.

The MP that used the word was a racist (as alluded to by the Inspector when taking about his death). It would have been the word used by someone so intolerant of others in that particular time.
Ahh, the swear filter caught it.

I really wasn't trying to offend by using it. It was a word that begins with N, ends in O.
Like in the film The Butler they were all called house n*****s, offends us now, but that's how it was, and this film is this year's.
Anyone who watches Ripper Street knows how gritty, hard and brutal it is - perfectly fitted within the storyline.

Do we know that no complaints were received?
Personally I was more offended by the use of the goat in the A/c D/c electricity trial.
Well, I cried when they killed off Joseph Merrick but isn't it a fabulous series?
Sounds good. What programme is it on, someone? Anyone?
Oh yes Mammalynne-it is very good. Gritty to the nth degree but I like the underlying storylines. Just waiting for DCI Reid to have some good fortune in his personal life for a change.!
Monday BBC1 9pm
Thanks mamya. I shall have a look at it next Monday. Might be able to get this weeks if I can figure out how to use this catch up facility.
