I think it only gets out of proportion if individuals let it. Most people seem sensible enough to me.
It's far too commercialised for my liking. I feel sorry for the people that are put under pressure to buy things they can't afford.

My thoughts as well Ummmm.
You want to see the lists that kids nowadays are expecting. They want phones that cost a few hundred quid, labels on all their clothes...

Just say no :-)

That's the trouble Ummmm, parents will not say NO.
Some parents won't , many do - a great lesson to children.
Well I do.

I'm not buying them expensive gifts just because it's xmas. They can have gifts throughout the year when they are deserved.
I hate the price manipulation by all these big stores, I also hate the frantic panic buying of some people.
I remember having christmas's when we were poor as a child. We still managed to have a nice time and enjoy our day, (we used to go help feel the elderly and those alone at the church on christmas day). My mum had to say no throughout the year, not just at christmas, so it wasn't exactly a shock that christmas was occasionally a bit tight. The day is what you make it.
Xmas is getting out of hand!
Remember the days when we were happy with hardly anything.
i dont enjoy buying for kids now, as it seems so little!!!
They all seem to want such a lot nowadays.

As a child, Apple, orange, cowboy suite, all put in a LARGE SOCK, can you remember? to the boys.
My son asked (again) for a laptop this year. It was hard, but I had to say no.

Where do you draw the line? A laptop this year, an ipad the year after?
I thought there would be less pressure once my son realised Father Christmas wasn't real, but if anything, it's worse!
Typos are wonderful,
I now have this image of China FEELing the elderly ;o)

(Sorry China, couldn't resist.)
Pusskin, that's so true. A couple of branded toys and you could be looking at £80+!
China's Christmas was spent feeling the elderly and TWR's in a cowboy suite! :P
The Cowboy Suite, was it one of those 3 piece ones?
Lol. I thought it was on the top floor of a hotel. Like a penthouse suite... but for cowboys :)
Ahem... 'feeding'.... ... whoops... ;o)
