For me it has to be Jim Proudfoot, currently of Absolute Radio.

I cannot listen to Alan Green on 5 Live any more.
He winds me up so much

His father used to be a season ticket holder in the South Stand at Windsor Park, prompoing the chant "Ooh, ahh, Alan Green's da".
Whatever prompoing means????
''He made a forward pass when his teammate could have done well with a square ball.''

Square ball? That's interesting.
I'm sure it is the rose tinted glasses that responsible for this post, not to mention the red wine and the Morretti, but I often hanker for the likes of Brian Moore and early MOTD.
Don't have a current one, Peter Drury and John Champion are 2 of the worst ones currently commentating

Favourite commentator from the past was the late Hugh Johns
Pundit Roy Keane
I actually like Jonathan Pearce (I know many don't) . His commentary on the Ukraine v Sweden Euro 2012 game was outstanding - he really got into the spirit of the occasion, with a mixture of passion and also some interesting facts and local colour for those unfamiliar with Ukraine and its capital.
I've noticed a tendency with some commentators notably Guy Mowbray to intersperse their commentary with obviously rehearsed punning soundbites which no doubt appeal to many but I find a bit grating.
I also find Alan Green irritating - he thinks he has the right to be insufferably rude and boorish - for example when slagging off the stadium announcer during England v France.
I do like Jackie (Jeckie!) Fullerton, on BBC N Ireland - and his "Ballymena grey perm" :-)
Apologies if I've told this story before but when N Ireland played the Czech Republic in Prague a few years ago, this commentator's "legend" status was confirmed by the reaction of the away fans who, to the bemusement of the locals, answered every chant of "Chekhiya!" with the reply "Fullerton!" -
Stan Collemore.
Absolute radios coverage of football is probably the worst I have ever heard.

Puerile, patronising rubbish. It starts at the point that is listeners have never seen a football game and go's down hill from there. All day yesterday they played commentary of Italy’s penalties. This shows that A) they have no understanding of how the nation felt. B) No understanding of how football followers felt. C) They think their listeners are idiots.
"Thomas bursting through the midfield. It's up for grabs now" Brian Moore- legend.
