My father has split with his wife of a year. they've been together 4 years in total.

He's running all over the country for her, doing this that and the next and she just seems to be loosing the plot

He's now living in hotels/friends floors and she is at her mothers.

He's been to marriage guidance but that made things worse. Rather than speaking she just went of in a mood. Now rather than try to work out their problems all communication is about money on her part... so you know where her priorities are!!

She has a lot of her own money through property and being paid off in 2 jobs she has had

My dad has some money as he was paid off from a job he was in for 40 years. They probably have the same amount of money. him maybe slightly more. but she has more than enough to survive

all talks are about money. what would she be entitled to if they divorce after being married for a year and having no children?

her brother is a millionaire so probably her!!!
shes at her mothers and hes at his friends? didnt they even have a property of their own?

sadly it will be down to how the solicitors handle it if they cant agree themselves.

The solicitors will be the winners in the long term
Not sure who will benefit most, but, my moneys on the solicitor.
Oops should have read previous answer.

its complicated. they moved abroad so rented out their house. she's flown back and forward from abraod to britain when she goes in a mood.

now their both back in britain and now she doesn't want to move back into this house even though they could. this is where she's being akward and making lots of demands

so any money they had is now getting wasted on them staying in hotels. travelling all over the place to meet with marrage councilors, that didn't work so now she's wanting him to travel hundreds of miles to speak to a financial mediator
He's entitled to whatever he can amicably or otherwise negotiate.

If that fails courts will start off with a 50/50 presumption and work away from it on the basis of whatever evidence is produced by the parties and their solicitors.

there trying to work things out. he's still talking of how to save the marraige and she's wanting £30,000 now and he doesn't have this

so you see where her priorities are!!!! they have money all over the place tied up in high interest accounts

spoke to my brother. he's spent the last few days with him and he's looking very ill and really what he needs is for her to stop emailing and texting with all these financial demands

we're thinking of getting in touch just to say this and we're now worried about his health. could this make things worse?

also, he's coming to stay with me which is hundreds of miles from her. and he'll be meeting his grandchildren for the first time. i'm not wanting her to ruin what should be a happy time for him (its allready going to be a bit of a depressing time as things are)

he was saying he might have to cut his stay short as his wife wants him to go and talk money. (hopefully they can do this over the phone/email/solicitor) as he needs a base and a bed to sleep in and he has that here. if he leaves then where does he go as we are so far away

thank you for all your advice

i've done a bit of reading and i was wondering, since he's 15 years older, been paid off his job and practically homeless would things not look better for him for maybe a 60/40 split or even her having to pay him!!!

his wife is younger, more likely to get a job in her profession, has a roof over her head in a permanent address. where my dad is squatting at friends houses and he has now said he'll pay her rent for the next 6 months in the hope that once she settles they'll get back together!!!

he's tip toing around her meeting all her needs

if they live seperate lives by the time they pay 2 rents, bills etc their money will soon go but together they can have a comfortable life

their house is being rented out and at the moment thats the only money he has and she now wants that rent aswell.
