I sold an expensive item (an antique) and it was paid for by cheque but then the buyer has vanished! It was quite an old lady - she might have got ill or died for all I know! I have lost her details and ebay won't help as it was more than six months ago. Where do I stand with ownership of the item? I can't keep it here forever as I sold it because I needed space!

Awww what a shame for you and the buyer, wonder what happened to her. Cant she be contacted by her bank if they still have the cheque/account details for you?
looks like you have dropped on .
no e-mails from the buyer?

She rang up originally to say she was trying to sort transport, -then nothing! It's been over a year now, ebay are no help, they delete all your transactions after six months... She sounded elderly so I hope she's ok. I'd really like to shift this item though!
sell it to another old lady and go for the double bubble
Did you pay the cheque into your bank? You could ask your bank to pay the value back into Her bank then are free to re-list and sell it on again if its your conscience thats bothering you
NoK is probably offering the best advice even if the buyer surfaced and asked for their item, ebay would not entertain a claim for non delivery/supply due to the time since the sale.

The buyers only recourse to get their money back would be through the courts, which might well fail given the length of time that has elapsed since the sale, with no attempt to collect the item.
