My friend came to UK 2 yers ago, hardly could speak english. Somebody use naivety and sold him national insurance number claiming that this is what he need to have to work in UK.
The strange things is that he is registered in Ireland revenue with his proper name, address and NIN, receiving letters from there, he even got P60!
How is it possible when i know the NIN was sold to him? How can he check if it is real ad how can he apply for the real/legal now if he is allready "registered" with Ireland revenue under his name???

When you say Ireland Revenue do you mean Inland Revenue (now known as HMRC).

I suggest your friend should ask HMRC or Job Centre Plus to check that the number is a valid one.
