if you sit two people in a garage and one is smoking the worst that will happen to the non-smoker is maybe some eye irritation from the cigarette smoke. If you sit two people in a garage with a car running and the exhaust blowing into the garage your going to have two dead bodies before long.

Sitting in an enclosed space with a few smokers not only makes you reek of it when you come out, but can irritate sensitive eyes and set off bouts of asthma and coughing in susceptible people. Carbon monoxide is just one of 3000 toxins in cigarettes, and can't do ANYONE any good.
I don't mind if others want to smoke, but it's not my idea of fun.

As a smoker that never smokes in front of others, except outdoors, i see some reason in 10ClarionsSt post.
Smoking is a dirty, smelly habit that shouldn't be forced on others, but i don't think it's to blame for all societies ills.
I grew up in the 70's/80's when smoking at home was so common, but i knew of very few that had asthma.
Why is it so common today when fewer people smoke in the home?
It must be another reason, what? I don't know. But i think more research is required.

You say that smoking in pregnancy does no harm. What medical evidence do you have? You say that we'd not have had soldiers if smoking by pregnant women caused the death of foetuses or babies.
"The vast body of research shows that smoking is harmful throughout pregnancy. Many studies have found that smoking in pregnancy is likely to increase the risk of miscarriage, premature birth and cot death, as well as breathing problems" Professor Robert West , of Cancer Research UK, quoted 14/2/08 in response to a claim that it was only harmful after 4 months of pregnancy.
Which do you now accept? Your own opinion without evidence or the opinion of a doctor who is a Professor of medicine with a lot of evidence?
