I got married last year have changed all documents -bank, driving licence etc. to my new name with the exception of my passport. I still have seven years left on this and begrudge having to pay another 80 just to get my name changed. I was planning on booking any holidays in my maiden name so it matched my passport but my husband doesn't think this is legal. Can anyone advise? Thanks.

Hi, my friend got married about 18 months ago, she not changed her passport yet. So long as you book in your maiden name, so that name on ticket matches passport, think you be ok. They should let you change name for free. Jane
Yea you have to pay for name change. I worked at the Post Office for a few years and I would just risk it, book it in your maiden name and spend the money you'll save on a nice meal on holiday. It's not like you using a false identity, its still u, same pic, etc. just make sure your travel insurance is in your maiden name!
I have the same problem, passport just expired and getting married abroad next year and don't want to pay twice for a new passport within a year. So i emailed the passport head office and asked them if it is legal to travel on my passport for the 9 years after i get married even though it will be in my maiden name. They said legally this is acceptable and on a practical level i will have to remember to book all travel details in my maiden name as most borders will not admit you with tickets in a different name to your passport. However this does mean a key piece of ID will be in a different name than the one you commonly use, so although it will be fine for travel you might get lots of questions if you tried to use it for ID to open a bank account of get a mortgage, for example.
so did these answers help you?!
