is it now legal to use a still in this country, as i see the home brew shops are selling them,

Are you sure that they are selling stills - The equipment for brewing beer (properly - not using kits) is very similar to a still, and could be converted to a still very easily.
If anybody is thinking of using a still - any toxins that were in the original liquor could be greatly intensified - possibly to dangerous levels, so there is a need for great care.

yes I am am a home brewer myself, hence my visits to the home brew shop, the still in question is well over one hundred pounds, the shopkeeper has to say by law that it is for distilling water, but obviously you can buy a lot of distilled water for that kind of money.
