Just had a call from Revenue and Customs to let me know that there is a tax fraud registered against my name. New one on me! Just hung up.

They don't give up do they?!

I've only ever been contacted by HMRC by snail mail.

Although I don't know why they call it 'snail mail' I sent my mother a mothers day card and it arrived the next day.
They would not call you to give you that information - they would contact you via Royal Mail!
Whilst HMRC do now contact on some lob via email and text message its not across the board.
There is a category "Spams and Scams" for just this sort of thread.

Thank you for your advice Togo!
Togo - it's also a section many don't look in.
They always get you in the end.
Maggie - it doesn't matter where you post this - it may go off kilter being in chatterbank- but if the ed is fussed she will move it
Have had several of these, one the day after a letter from the real HMRC telling me I had a debate coming. They do not communicate by phone, email or text, just post.
There is Togo, but this is clearly about a scan. :-)
It belongs in technology then Douglas. (^_*)
I was emailed today asked if I would assist in collecting 3 1/2 kilos of gold for some distressed soul. I would be entitled to one third of it. Now where did I put those scales?
When they say debate, Roo, I suspect they mean interrogation.
