My daughter is getting married up here in Northumberland, in February. Ideally they want to fly up here from, Southampton. She has been told that the only way she can bring her wedding dress is either, shove it in the overhead lockers, (not happening) or put it in the hold, (also not happening).

I said why not buy an extra seat for it. She rang Flybe and was told that she wasn't allowed to do this.

Anyone have any idea why they wouldn't sell her a second seat, for her dress.

I didn't know where to post this. :)

But a dress in a plastic bag laid on the seat in the upright position wouldn't pose a threat to life and limb, would it?
Question Author
She would get the train to Alnmouth, jackdaw.
Very little room for luggage on a train, or seats on some.
The CAA's stance would be that as it isn't secured, it would slide down in an emergency and become a trip hazard.
Alnmouth, know it well. There is one direct service per day from Southampton to Alnmouth, a 7 hour journey. God, I sound like Buenchico!!
Question Author
Cello case it is, then. ;)
Question Author
Lol, Jackdaw. Cheers.
As long as it is packed properly surely the hold is better?

If she is incapable of packing it properly I am sure there would be someone happy to pop round and show her how to do it.

TBH it isn't rocket science.

Have you seen how baggage handlers treat bags coming off flights, cassa??
Question Author
Luggage just gets chucked about.
They have not got time to delicately lift out your suitcase and place it gently on the conveyor belt!! Or else folks will be complaining about the wait for their suitcases!!!!!
Question Author
Hence my question, Sharon. The thought of this happening to her precious dress is, unthinkable.
But the dress is not breakable!!!! And it will be in a covered suitcase!!!
Question Author
That they may hurl about and tear or damage.
Question Author
It was never going to be squashed in a suitcase, either.
dont purchase two seats as when its time to check in only one person will be checking in on that name therefore they will think its a no show and when you explain its for dress they could still say no and would hate you to risk it and then be stuck
Question Author
Point taken, tezmand.
Which bit of 'packed properly' was too difficult to understand?

The baggage handlers could roll it down the hill over rocky outcrops and the contents would be fine if it is packed properly.

If her intention were to put it in the hold in it's plastic dress carrier then, hell yes it would get ruined. However I imagine, or at least hope she has a bit more sense than that.

Put it in the hold or send it via a delivery service.
Question Author
cassa333, there is absolutely no need for you to become so unpleasant.

"Which bit of packed properly did you not understand?"

"However, I would imagine or at least hope, hope she has more sense than that."
