Can a man divorce his wife without her knowing?

Not asking for myself, bit old in the tooth for that.

Many thanks.

Whilst I can not know, not being a legal eagle, I would have thought only if a missing spouse could not be found to be contacted. I can't see it being the case if it were avoidable, nor fair to either force someone to remain in a marriage, or assume death of the missing partner. So that would seem a (the only ?) scenario when it should be the case.
yes you can in the UK but you have to demonstrate that you have done everything possible to find the person and have the divorce papers served. The other possibility is if the wife had lacked the mental capacity to understand what was happening.

Thank you both for your answers.

In this case the persons know how to contact each other. Makes for an interesting scenario.
