..Our previous cars have always been in my name as registered keeper and MrsJan's name on the finance papers as legal owner.
We have just bought a brand new car and we're told the name must be the same on finance papers as well as registered keeper.
My question is,
Are the regulations different for new as opposed to used cars?
Can anyone help me please?.

I can see why, if you have finance, the finance company want one name on everything as its easier to deal with any payment default. I don't think there have to be regulations....it can be a condition of the finance deal.
Looks like they're covering their bums in case you were to default on the payments? By having the same person shown as being the one who has signed all the papers, as well as being the r/k means that they only have to chase one individual if they do default. Plus, they could apply to seize the vehicle as well.
