My wife has just received a booklet from the Pension Service, I quote,
Age Addition,
If you are 80 or over, you may be entitled to 25 PENCE a week age addition, paid with with your state Pension. Bloody hell aren't they generous, its just about enough to bye you some loo roll, but on saying that, its what they can do with it.

No booking that world cruise just yet then.. Wouldn't even buy you a loo roll TWR. Words fail........
I received mine yesterday, have'nt read the booklet yet.
When the state pension was first introduced by Lloyd George the full amount was 5s (25p) per week.

Its 2012 now Mke, how times have changed lol
You could not afford to go shopping in the £ Shop with just 25p in your pocket ! duh
LLoyd George wasn't giving much away. You had to be 70 to get it then and life expectancy was far lower than that.
Do pensioners still get the £10 Xmas bonus? When first introduced by Heath in the 70s it was the value of an extra week's pension.
They do.
I wonder if her maj claims the extra 25p lol
you'd be able to go to the pound shop every month though. I don't get why people moan - they are not taking 25p off you you know!
it will have cost a lot more than 25p to let everyone know !!!!! geez hope all the people entitled to this 'windfall' dont spend it recklessly ;0)
It was 25p when I started working for the (then) DHSS in 1981-an insulting figure then an insulting figure now.
