Criminal

what is a mapa 2

Hello everyone!

My partner is currently in prison doing a 6 year sentence for a section 18.
I have to stress though that this was in self defence and he is awaiting an appeal.
Anyway he has been told by his probation worker that he has been placed on a mapa 2 ( sorry have no idea what this is an abbreviation for).
Does anyone know what this means and what the possible implications are. All we know is that it is to do with his license, after his sentence (3 years) is over.
Any sensible answers are welcome, thanks!

Thanks wonderous.

I have read the information provided so at least now i know what we're up against.
I just think it is very unfair that after you have supposedly 'done your time' you are unable to come home. Surely this should be against your human rights.
Anyway, thanks again

No ones ever guilty it seems.

Your right. Your partner has rights.
How dare the police tell someone who has just done 6 years (maybe 3 ) , where they can live.
After all , what rights do the public have and victims have and how dare the police try to protect them.
Just not on if you ask me.

I also pay my taxes. I work full time and i am also now a single parent to 3 children under 6. So before you judge people you should consider that not all (criminals) are the same.
Yes i agree some need to be punished severely. However in my partners case he was defending himself against a knife attack.
So thankyou for your answers but i can assure you that he is not RIFF RAFF. He also works full time pays his taxes and just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time!!!

my cousin is in prison again and is now a mappa 2 because of the violent crimes he has commited now and in the past it is to protect the public and when they are released from prison they are closely watched and have very strict conditions and have to stay away from any trouble otherwise they are back in to serve the rest of the license

This is what i mean. No offence but your cousin obviously has a record, my partner has no other violence on his record. This is why we can't understand why probation have done this to him.
Thanks for your answer though!!

Your partner is a violent thug and you're in denial. you say it was self defence? Obviously the court never saw it like that luv.

Were you there??? you're entitled to your opinion but you are wrong, he isn't a thug. Also if that is the case how come he is appealing against 19 points to do with his trial. He has effectively been stitched up but of course these things just don't happen do they?? lol

Hi there

Just some further info for you. This would not have been a decision made just by probation, a MAPPA level 2 means that there will be involvement in his case by more than one of the agencies,i.e. police, probation, social services, etc. Because of the nature of the offence they need to be careful to manage the risk appropriately on his release with regards to where he will be living, how far away the victim lives and how it will affect them and also whether there may be any repurcussions towards your partner that could put him or his family at risk. So it works both ways really and is standard procedure in offences like this regardless of the circumstances. Level 2 are not generally very high risk cases. Once his supervision ends he will no longer be under MAPPA (in most cases anyway, unless there are ongoing issues after his release). Hope this helps!
