Hi,

I know this is petty but it's really winding me up:

I work a 7.5. hour day. I have a half day annual leave planned this week and have been told that a half day in work this week would be 8-12, four hours.

Surely a half day would be 3.75 hours, finishing at 11:45?

does anyone know of any information that might clear this up for me. I know it's only 15 minutes but i don't see why i should work when i won't be paid for it.

thanks in advance.

Yep, sounds pretty petty!
Do you usually stop for lunch at 11.45?
go to the toilet or have a coffee and 11.45 til 12.

Youll not be working then
that should read AT not AND
Think it depends how long you usually get breaks for. I work 8 hours but 1 of them is meant to be lunch hour (although I never get to take it), so half day is half of the 7 hours which i normally work, so 3&half. Your calculation is right on the basis that you usually work for the full 7 and half hours and that no breaks are included in that figure.
Your best bet is to ask at work.
What exactly are your normal daily contracted hours and what are the length of /arrangements for breaks and lunch?
our day is 7.5 hours, if an employee takes a half day in the morning they work 9 - 12.45 and if it the morning they have off they start work at 1.45
