Wouln't Lloyd-Webber's 5millon have been better spent, sending some OAPs ,or perhaps some deprived children.who have never been on a holiday. His guests all can and do enjoy numourous luxury holidays, with their own wealth.

In Victorian and Edwardian days, wealthy Industrialist etc. donated large sums of money, to have amenities built etc all for the benefit of their town's less wealthy peoples.

Where are all these benefactors these days?

It's not true:

In any case, if it were true, why should we suppose that it says anything whatsoever about Lloyd-Webber's charitable donations? For all we know he may be a great philanthropist. Or he may not. We simply cannot know.
Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, Richard Branson - that's after three seconds of thought.

Lloyd Webber incidentally is a proud Tory. Many of the people on this site are Tories, if not even further to the right.

Why expect them to give their money to the needy through charitable donations when they oppose that same attitude when it comes to taxation?
-- answer removed --
that's the purpose of working for your own money, you can do as you well please with it.
Precisely. So why slag him off when he decides to spend it on his mates if you're not taking issue with his greediness over tax?
are you advocating the redistribution of wealth?
Shamefully.
What about Tom Hunter??? As a scot much more generous than Cowell etc!!!

He earned his money so is entitled to spend it how he wants and on what he wants. I see no reason why he should give any more money to charity than I do.
Its his money, he can spend it as he wishes.
I would bet everything i own that, A L Webber gives
generously to charity. As for victorian & edwardian
millionaires now tell me,what else was there for them to
spend their millon's on ! A plane trip to the carribean, a
second home in Florida. They were'nt even able to obtain
a cheapie second home like me ,in Spain.
