You could contact one of the major charities who do "Free Wills". You don't have to leave them anything (but they like it if you do). They pay the solicitor a nominal amount for a simple will. Check also with your bank account, you may have provision with certain current accounts for such services.
If your affairs are uncomplicated, but all means do it yourself, but get a really good book to help you - "Which" publish a pretty good guide. Sadly, I see more problems from home made wills than any other type so if it is even vaguely complicated, get a professional in. |

DH and i paid 150 quid for two wills (mirror) permanent fireproof storage and permanent registration on the national wills register. The chap listened to what we wanted and made some very good suggestions to make it watertight. This was 3 years ago. (Hampshire)

Jomifl - no such thing as a "foolproof" Will............. Tbh, generally the most problems I see are homemade Wills. However, the WORST will I ever saw was from a firm of solicitors where the fee earner had never drafted a Will. It was shocking.

to my knowledge, the charities that do free will schemes are Cancer research UK, Barnardos, The Stroke Association but there are many others.

£120 in Edinburgh from local solicitor a few months ago. Very straightforward will. I believe this is about the minimum price round here.

Whoever draws it up, check for errors. We had mirror wills done in Bolton a few years back and there were many errors, I was apparently leaving money to myself, and this was a good solicitor.

Google "Holographic Will"
