ideal job

is there a site where you can enter your skills/interests etc, and it suggests a career for you?

Sara, there is no automated way of assessing what you are fired by and what the future will hold. There are sites such as Fast Tomato that claim to marry up your skills with courses available in your area, but try entering 'technical translator' or anything off the beaten track into this and it shows you where you can study plumbing.
The real thing about today is that the jobs landscape is changing very quickly. If you don't know what you want to 'be', look at if rom another side and decide to earn a bit to pay your keep while you make your mind up. All these 'minor' jobs are valid experience and contribute to the bigger picture that will be you in 10 year / 20 years time.

thanks, but in 10-20 years I hope I'll be done with working!

I took a job to tide me over while I considered what I really wanted to do, and 22 years later am still doing it. I'm sure I was destined for something completely different, but maybe I'm kidding myself now. I tried surfing the net but as you say, they all pointed at various courses.

thanks anyway :o)

Hi

have you tried the Learn Direct website? They have a good section called 'Job Profiles' with all sort of industries and roles on there. It may give you a few ideas at least.

Hi sara3! Take a look at the 'jobs 4u' careers site. It is really good and you can do an advanced search which searches for jobs according to your interests, level of qualifications etc. It also suggests alternative careers on the right hand side of the page. This site will allow you to see how much you can earn, what qualifications you need and also related sites that can give you more information if you need it. Good luck, it's never to late to change career.
