I work for a car hire company who have joined forces with another car hire company. Basically the other company are paying their staff 8 pence an hour more than the company I'm with. I know it's not much but it's the principle of working alongside people doing the same job but knowing I'm getting less money. Is there any thing that I can do??

unfortunately there isnt anything you can do.
i used to be in the same situation, basically your contract says you get one rate of pay theirs says another!!!

where i work, there are agency staff who earn literally half of what us permanant staff earn! i used to be agency! and it was quite annoying, there are new laws for agency workers coming in, but in your situation as far as im aware they cant legally reduce there pay to match yours and they are not obliged to increase yours
