Can I see my mother's will?

My mother died recently and my sister and I have always been told by her that she would leave us her personal possessions in her will (jewellery etc). My father has verbally confirmed this is the case. However, he is beneficiary and executor of her will and has made no mention of any items left to myself and my sister. The solicitors who were holding the will say they have released the will to my father as he is executor. Can I see a copy of will or how do I find out whether my father is withholding the legacies? Is he legally obliged to carry out my mother's wishes within a certain period of time and how can anyone stop an executor doing whatever they wish if noone else can see the will?
